Is the Obi-Wan Kenobi series one of the top three Star Wars shows ever made?

Side A

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is a masterpiece of character study that finally gives us the emotional closure we needed between the Prequels and the Original Trilogy. Seeing Ewan McGregor return to the role is a gift, and his performance perfectly captures a man broken by loss and guilt. The relationship between Ben and a young Princess Leia is the heart of the show; it adds so much weight to her message in 'A New Hope' when she calls for his help. It’s not just an adventure; it’s a journey of healing. The final confrontation between Vader and Obi-Wan is arguably the best lightsaber duel in the entire franchise, blending raw emotion with incredible choreography. It humanizes Anakin under the mask and shows us the exact moment Obi-Wan accepts that his friend is truly gone. The hate this show gets is baffling because it delivers exactly what fans asked for: a deep, emotional look at one of the galaxy's most iconic heroes during his darkest hour. It bridge the gap between two eras of cinema perfectly and deserves its spot at the top of the rankings.

Side B

While I appreciate the nostalgia of seeing Ewan and Hayden back together, the Obi-Wan Kenobi show was a massive disappointment that suffered from poor writing and baffling production choices. For a series centered on one of the most important characters in cinematic history, the visual quality often looked cheap, with flat lighting and shaky camera work that felt more like a fan film than a big-budget production. The plot was riddled with 'filler' moments and logic leaps, such as the infamous slow-motion forest chase or characters surviving wounds that should have been fatal. More importantly, it felt like it diluted the impact of the original films. The idea that Obi-Wan and Vader had this epic showdown years before their meeting on the Death Star takes away from the tension of their final encounter in 'A New Hope'. It felt like a story that could have been a tight two-hour movie but was stretched into a six-episode series that lacked the narrative weight to sustain itself. Compared to high-quality shows like 'Andor' or the early seasons of 'The Mandalorian', it simply doesn't belong in the top tier.
